On this Easter, the second during the COVID-19 lockdown, I find encouragement in a striking and memorable couple of verses from Hebrews.
Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV
This Easter I am rising to the challenge of a five-year project with Fellowship International and wonder how all of this will work out? Quite the daunting task requiring training, building a team, developing curriculum and other resources. Raising supporters to partner with me in this project is also a concern. Yet, I am encouraged because, if God is in this, I will not be struggling on my own.
And so I have this assurance, as the writer of the book of Hebrews expressed it:
May the God of peace …
Equip you with everything good for doing his will
And
may he work in us what is pleasing to him
Over this weekend we have remembered the death and sacrifice of our Lord, and celebrated his resurrection from the dead. The writer to the Hebrews wants us to know that this is the power that will work in us to fulfill the will of God. For it is the God of peace, ““who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus,” who enables us in every way to serve him.
Now in the midst of COVID, I find I need his enabling and working in me more than ever.
